Abstract

PURPOSE:To compute the step length, walking speeds, and the like, by sending ultrasonic wave pulses from one shoe, and receiving them by another shoe when both shoes hit the ground and measuring the propagation time of the pulses. CONSTITUTION:When there exists the AND signal of a triggering signal from a switch 4L operated by the grounding of the left foot and the triggering signal from a switch 4R which is operated by the grounding of the right foot, both feet are grounded. The pulse shaped ultrasonic wave is transmitted from a transmitter 2L to a receiver 3R at the same time when the AND signal is outputted. The propagating time of the ultrasonic wave from the transmitter 2L to the receiver 3R is measured by a time counting part in a controller 5, and the step length is computed. If the time for one step is measured, the walking speeds for step by step and their average value and the like can be also computed.
