Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute measurement of rainfall intensity and precipitation at high response, by shortening an optical path between a light-emitting optical system and a light-receiving optical system, and then, by detecting variation of intensity of the light at the time when drops of rain pass through a light beam. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 1 is squeezed by a condensing optical element 3, and a light beam 13 is emitted from a light-emitting optical system 4. The beam 13 is modulated by drops of rain when it is in the middle of being propagated in a space of approximately 2 meters or more. This variation of quantity of light is taken out as an electrical signal by a light-receiving optical system 8 for a light-receiving optical element 5, a photoelectric conversion element 6 and a head amplifier 7. Only varied portion of signal is extracted by a wave-detecting circuit 9 and introduced into a multiplying detector 10, and then, magnitude of the varied portion is put out as an outputI. And further, the output of the circuit 9 is introduced to a pulse-shaping circuit 11, and an adjustment is made so that a pulse is generated every time a drop of rain passes through the light beam 13, and by counting number of output pulses per unit time by a counting circuit 12, the result is put out as an output II.
