Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and reliability of an optical communication cable by adhering an FRP cover and a thermoplastic cover around an optical cable through a hot-melting type adhesive, by stranding them, and providing a protective sheath around them. CONSTITUTION:A primary cover 2 and a buffer layer 3 are provided around an optical fiber 1, and an FRP cover 4 is provided around them. Further, the outer circumference is covered with a hot-melting type adhesive layer 5 thinly by coating or extrusion. Furthermore, the layer is covered with thermoplastic resin by extrusion, and the FRP cover 4 and thermoplastic resin cover 6 are adhered to each other through the adhesive layer 5 by heat generated during said extrusion coating. Then, FRP-covered optical communication lines 7 are stranded into a cable core 8, around which a pressure-winding layer 9 of a tape and a protective sheath 10 of laminate sheath structure are provided, thus forming an optical communication cable. Consequently, the flexibility and wear resistance of each covered optical communication line 7 are improved, so that the optical communication cable has high reliability.
