Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance by regulating polymn. conditions at the stage of filtering and refining a monomer consisting essentially of methyl methacrylate as a core component material by the use of a porous membrane and subjecting the same to continuous bulk polymn. at elevated temps. CONSTITUTION:A monomer consisting essentially of methyl methacrylate, and if necessary, mercaptan, and a radical polymn. initiator are filtered by the use of porous hollow yarn of polyethylene or the like and are thereby refined, thence these are subjected to continous bulk polymn. at elevated temps. At this time, <=0.01-1.0mol% mercaptan and the radical polymn. initiator of the amt. satisfying the formulas 1-3[A is molar number in 100g monomer feed, B is the half-life (time) at polymn. temps.]are also supplied, and these are so polymerized that the polymer content phi(wt%) of the reaction mixture satisfies 50<phi<70exp (0.0121T-1.81)[T is polymn. temp. ( deg.C)].
