Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the rise in the temperature of a battery for a submerged machine during the discharge of the battery and stabilize its discharge performance, by providing a heat exchange section made of a spiral fluid passage, on the outside of a battery container and by circulating the electrolyte through the heat exchange section. CONSTITUTION:A heat exchange section 7 made of a spiral fluid passage is provided on the outside of a container A for a battery. When the battery is submerged, the sea water or the like is introduced into an electrolyte circulator 1 through a water intake port 3 so that an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide which is the electrolyte of the battery is set at a prescribed concentration. The aqueous solution is then introduced into the battery container A through a passage 9 to make the battery ready to act. During the discharge of the battery, the electrolyte enters into a gas/liquid separator 11 through a water drain port 10. After that, the electrolyte circulates through the spiral passage of the heat exchange section 7 and cools the battery container A while the electrolyte is releasing produced hydrogen gas through an outlet port 4. The circulating coolling liquid returns to the electrolyte circulator 1 through a passage 12. According to this constitution, the temperature of the battery is controlled not to rise during its discharge.
