Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable adequate control corresponding to color, and superior copying, by detecting spectral characteristics of a reflected light from the nonimage area of an original, and controlling at least one of exposure quantity and developing bias voltage in accordance with their detected outputs. CONSTITUTION:Light detecting elements different from each other, such as the first and the second photodiodes 21, 22 are provided near the second mirror 5 on fixing member 20 for fixing mirror 5 in order to detect the reflected light of the nonimage area of an original. The original to be copied is exposed to light, spectral characteristics of the reflected light from the nonimage areas are detected with diodes 21, 22, and at least one of exposure quantity of the original and developing bias voltage is controlled, thus permitting the spectral characteristics of the nonimage area even in the case of a colored original to be exactly detected, control of adequate exposure quantity to be effected automatically in accordance with the original, and a superior copy to be obtained.
