Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I (R1 and R2 are lower alkyl; X is lower alkylene; n is 0W2).
EXAMPLE: 2-( N-Hydroxybutylimidyl )-5-( 2-ethylthiopropyl )-3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexen-1-one.
USE: Intermediate of medicines or agricultural chemicals.
PREPARATION: The reaction between an acyl compound of formula II and hydroxylamine is conducted in water or an organic solvent such as an alcohol by adding an alkali in an amount of double molar amount of the acyl compound in the presence of a catalyst of a primary amine to give the compound of formula I. The reaction temperatuer is 25W50°C. The optimization of the amount of the alkali used extremely reduces the formation of by-products. Further, the use of the catalyst permits the completion of the reaction in a short time.
