Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to easily recognize a character having complicated internal structure, as well, by deriving simultaneously not only the circumscribed points on the character contour but also the selected points for extracting the internal convex part, in the circumscribed point method.
CONSTITUTION: A contact of a" can be derived by deriving the distance from (a) as to each point on the contour, and deriving not only its maximum value but also the local maximum value. In this case, the aforesaid local maximum value is derived in only the area where a black ground is located at this side nearer than a white ground by placing the contour between them, seeing from (a). When the following cases are performed in the 8 directions aWh in the same way as the foregoing, a pole (black circle) shown in the figure can be derived. With regard to the character pattern contour divided by this pole, it is decided whether each section is convex or concave, both the adjacent sections are both convex or concave, the concave convex division is obtained finally by combining them.
