Abstract

PURPOSE: To attenuate sound produced by resonance of gas column in an enclosed vessel, by providing a silencing valve in an inlet tail pipe or outlet tail pipe, utilizing the velocity difference between coolant gas flow and sound.
CONSTITUTION: An inlet valve 3 is provided at inlet port 2 of compression chamber 1 for compressing coolant gas, and a silencer valve 7 opened and closed in response to pressure change in muffler 4 is provided at one end portion of inlet tail valve 6 where it is opened in muffler 4. This silencer valve 7 is still closed at the instant shortly after inlet valve 3 is opened but it is opened with some time delay when coolant in muffler 4 flows into compression chamber 1 and pressure in muffler 4 is lowered. Therefore, if sound is produced at the instant when inlet valve 3 is opened, sound produced by valve 3 can be attenuated since silencer valve 7 is still closed at the instant and it is subsequently opened with some time delay.
