Abstract

PURPOSE: To lighten the shock of speed change in an automatic transmission, by engaging the transmission when a manual valve means comes to the position to shut power transmission and providing the transmission with a friction element to fix the input shaft.
CONSTITUTION: Individual clutch and brake are provided with a piston means of a servo means for engagement, and their engagement and release are effected by supply and discharge of oil pressure. Further, combinations of individual cluth and brake actuations can achieve forward three steps and reverse one step of transmission. In the N range, rotation of the input shaft 26 has been stopped, and, when the manual valve is shifted from N range to D range, only connection of the stalled output shaft 52 to the stalled input shaft 26 is required, and there is no need to absorb rotational inertia by an axle, etc., and there is no shock of change of speed.
