Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Para-substituted phenylacetic acid derivatives of formulaI(R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl; R3 is H, lower alkyl, inorganic or organic cation; n is 0W2).
EXAMPLE: p-Methylthiomethylphenylacetic acid.
USE: Antiflammatory agents and antithrombotic agents.
PREPARATION: The reaction of p-chloromethylphenylacetic acid of formula II (R31 is R3) with an alkylthiol of formula: R1SH (R1 is preferably 1W10C alkyl) is effected in an alkaline medium, then the reaction product is subjected to hydrolysis, cation exchange, and oxidation to yield the compound of formulaI. The compound of formula II is prepared by chloromethylation of phenylacetic acid or its ester.
