Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize easy cntrol of display contrast when coloring, to extend the memory duration of display, and to obtain smooth fading of color when eliminating the display, by supplying charged charge of a capacitor.
CONSTITUTION: Before an electrochromic display body 9 makes a display, a certain charge is accumulated in a capacitor 12 from a constant voltage power source 11 through a switching element 10. Afterwareds, when the element 10 is changed to the side of display body 9, the charge is supplied to the display body 9 until the certain charge of the charge charged in the capacitor 12 is balanced, so that the display may be presented. The remaining charge is used to hold the display memory. Suppose the voltage of the power source 11 to be V1, the balanced electrode potential with respect to the counter electrode of the display electrode of display body 9 to be V2, and the capacitance of capacitor 12 to be C, a charge expressed by C(V1-V2) will be supplied to the display body 9, and the writing corresponding to such charge may be performed
