Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate detection of the connected condition of optical fibers by arranging a film for blocking transmission of a light at the opposite end face of a transparent tube, into which the optical fibers are to be inserted, so that the detection light from the outside may be guided into the fibers. CONSTITUTION:The light coming from its source 7 arranged outside especially for detection goes into a glass tube 3 and is reflected on its inclined wall 5 so that it advances toward the connected portion of optical fibers 1 and 2. Since, in this instance, reflecting films 8 and 9 are mounted in the opposite end faces of glass tubes 3 and 4, all the light to go into the tube 4 from the tube 3 is the light to pass through the overlapped portions of the end faces of the fibers 1 and 2 so that it is reflected to the outside from the wall 5. The quantity of the light is detected by a light receiving element 6 to know the connected condition, and the fibers 1 and 2 can be efficiently connected by adjusting the tubes 3 and 4 in a manner to maximize the light quantity. With the use of such simple construction, it is possible to easily detect the condition of the connected portions of the long optical fibers.
