A communication section 3 that performs 2-wire to 4-wire conversion and the like is connected. An operation unit 2 including a numeric keypad is connected to the control unit 1.
When the numeric keypad of the operating section 2 is operated after going off-hook, the control section 1 sends out a corresponding dial signal. On the other hand, in a telephone conversation state, the voice signal sent from the other party reaches the communication section 3 via the line 1o, and is converted into voice and generated from the receiver R of the handset 4 or the speaker 5.

A sound quality control signal sending means for sending out a sound quality control signal indicating a request for what kind of change is to be caused, and a frequency characteristic of the sound signal sent from the other party based on the sound control signal sent from the sound quality control signal sending means. The telephone is equipped with a sound quality adjustment section that changes the sound quality and sends the sound to the sound generation section.

A control unit 1A that transmits dial signals, controls incoming and outgoing calls, etc., and a communication unit 3 that performs 2-wire/4-wire conversion etc. are connected to the terminal. An operation unit 2A having a numeric keypad, tone adjustment keys, etc. is connected to the control unit 1A. The dialing signal is sent out in the same way as in the past, but when the sound quality adjustment key of the operation unit 2A is operated, the control unit 2A controls the voice generated from the receiver R of the handset 4 based on the data of this key operation. A sound quality control signal indicating what kind of change is to be caused in the frequency component of is sent to the sound quality adjustment section 6. In this way, the operation section 2A and the control section 1A constitute the sound quality control signal sending means 20. The sound quality adjustment section 6 is sent from the other party to the line 10.
.. The frequency characteristics of the audio signal arriving via the communication section 3,
It outputs a change based on a sound quality control signal, and is composed of, for example, a filter or an addition/subtraction circuit, and changes the sound quality by strengthening or weakening a desired frequency component.

is sent to receiver R of. In other words, the receiver R constitutes a voice generating section that generates voice based on the voice signal sent from the other party. In such a telephone, when a caller is having a call using the handset 4 and the other party's voice is difficult to hear, the data can be transferred to the control unit 1A by operating the sound quality adjustment key on the operation unit 2A. When the call is received, a sound quality control signal is output from the control unit 1A, and the sound quality adjustment unit 6 strengthens or weakens the desired frequency component, so that the caller can speak with suitable and easily audible sound quality.
