In cartons having an opening 44 for access to the cigarettes, exposed by retracting a slide 23 by a thumb piece 25 hinged to the wall 5 by a panel 5p, one or more wings such as 6s are provided to cover the triangular gap which would otherwise be left between the edge of the sides 2, 3 and the parts 25, 5p when the slide is retracted. The carton is folded up from the blank shown, the slide being covered by the end wall 24, and the flap 6 being stuck at 2a to the side 2 while the port 6s is left free to slide behind the side 2. The tab 23 - is attached along a perforated line 27 to the wall 3 and is stuck at 23a to the thumb piece 25, which has indentations 31. The wing 6s may have an ear formed in it for co-operation with a slit provided along the score line 26, the ear being held in the slit when the slide is in its fully open position. The other triangular gap may be closed by a triangular wing at 47. The blanks may be folded around a hollow mandrel containing the cigarettes. Specification 832,446 is referred to.
