Abstract

909,014. Door seals. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 21, 1960 [Aug. 12, 1959], No. 25430/60. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XIII] A door seal for a refrigerator or the like comprises an elongated strip 12 of resilient extruded vinyl compound material of the crosssection shown, with an elongated recess housing a flexible, edge-magnetized strip magnet 20 the N and S poles of which are along opposite edges of the strip, the outer wall 18 of the recess which effects sealing contact with the door 14 having a flat surface with an outwardly projecting rib 22 along the outer edge thereof and the inner wall at the outer edge of the strip having a rib 24 to space the magnet 20 away from the wall and create a void opposite the rib 22. The rib projects from the flat surface 18 by an amount say of the order of 0.015 inch, equal to the height of the flashing formed at the mitre joint at each corner of the door seal strip, and the transverse thickness of the rib is of the same order.
