Abstract

896,912. Electrolysis. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 5753/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. [Also in Group XVIII] An electrode for use in electrolysis, e.g. for electrolysing brine, producing MnO2 or refining Zn, comprises a sheet of anodically polarizable metal in the form of expanded mesh, to the surface of which is secured, e.g. by electroplating, a noble metal of the Pt group, the mesh perforations being longer than they are wide and current-distributing means being secured to the mesh and extending in a direction parallel to the width of the mesh. The terms " anodically polarizable metal and " noble metal of the Pt group " are defined, the definitions appearing in the abridgment of Specification 889,147, the preferred noble metals being Pt, Rh, or an alloy of Pt with Rh. The current-distributing means are Ti bus-bars welded to the top edge of the mesh at the front and back surface. Additional bars may be secured at the bottom and side edges for stiffening the electrode.
