Abstract

894,653. Hypodermic needles. COOKWAITE LABORATORIES Inc. Nov. 26, 1958 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 38170/58. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic needle assembly comprises a needle 16 fixed in a hub 22, one end 18 of the needle extending from one side of the hub into a sleeve which extends from the same side of the hub and is closed by a disposable cap 14 and the other end of the needle extending from the other side of the hub and being protected by a needle guard 10, the hub being made of a material which deforms at the boiling-point of water. The needle guard has an aperture which is closed by a cotton plug 30 and is used for introducing a fluid for pre-sterilisation. The needle is fixed in the hub by a bend 20 or an enlarged, roughened or indented portion which is embedded in the hub. For use, the cap is removed, the hub sleeve is mounted on the end of an ampoule a diaphragm at the end of which is punctured by the needle. The ampoule and needle assembly are then placed in a syringe barrel so that the needle, hub and guard project. A shoulder on the hub engages a complementary shoulder in the barrel to retain the ampoule within the barrel. Specification 614,003 is referred to.
