Abstract

883,130. Controlling, vehicles. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT, and GHIA S.p.A. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 17, 1959], No. 32018/60. Classes 79(4) and 79(5). A steering column 5 is pivoted at 4 to an upwardly inclined extension 3 of a central rib 1 of a motor vehicle body, the steering motion being transmitted from the wheel 7 through chain 8 and sprockets 9 and 10 to the mechanism 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 so that the vehicle may be controlled from either front seat. Alternative control pedals 17 and 18 are provided with means for locking the set not in use. The column may be moved by a non-reversible mechanism, e.g. by an electric motor driving through a worm, or detents may be provided for locating the column in position. The front face of an extension 3 may be used for instruments.
