Abstract

844,386. Controlling the moisture content of paper. LIPPKE, P. Jan. 23, 1957 [Jan. 26, 1956], No. 2436/57. Class 96. In controlling the moisture content of a travelling web of paper or paper-board in a paper-making machine, a moisture meter 1, located at the end of the drying section, is moved periodically across the web to measure its moisture content in successive transverse areas. The measurements are recorded on a strip 2 and fed to apparatus 3, which controls the amount of water sprayed, by sprays or brush sprinklers 9, on to parts of the web corresponding to the said transverse areas and/or the amount of pulp supplied through corresponding portions of a sluice 14, to the forming section of the machine. The apparatus 3 comprises an adjustable device 10 by means of which a desired value for the moisture content of the paper or paper-board can be selected.
