Abstract

778,040. Explosion-proof enclosures. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Dec. 9, 1955 [Dec. 20, 1954], No. 35404/55. Class 47. An explosion proof enclosure for housing electrical control equipment is provided with flame arresting ventilators for relieving excessive pressure, consisting of a rigid porous sintered metal filter plate 16, Fig. 2, secured by a lowered clamping plate 17 over an opening 20 in one side wall of the enclosure, and of woven metal gaskets 18, 27, provided respectively, between the enclosure and the filter plate 16 and between the enclosure and a removal cover 13, Fig. 1, for an opening 11 in the enclosure. The filter plate may be formed of bronze or a mixture of copper and tin particles. The gaskets may be made of stainless steel, bronze, copper or other corrosion resistant metal such as a high nickel copper alloy.
