A lock-nut comprises a disc d, Fig. 1, having a non-circular, e.g. polygonal, outer periphery secured in a correspondingly-shaped recess i in the nut body a. The inner per iphery has one or more recesses g, Fig. 4, forming lugs q<SP>1</SP> which may be of unequal length and have threadengaging edges p with chamfered sides r, Fig. 5. The disc may have slots extending parallel with the inner periphery and separate from the recesses. The inner periphery is of smaller diameter than the root diameter of the threads it engages, whereby the disc is deformed and frictionally locks the nut. The disc may be dished and the edges p arranged helically, to engage different parts of the same turn, or different turns.
