To connect two pipes of metals subject to deleterious electro-chemical action when in contact, such as an aluminium pipe 1 and a copper pipe 4, the pipe 1 is belled at 3 to provide a socket 2, receiving with clearance the pipe 4 which is centred by a bush 5 of thermo-setting plastic. The rest of the socket is filled by a sleeve 7 of rubber-like material having a length several times greater than its thickness. The sleeve 7 is applied in a partly cured condition, the bush 5 is compressed by forcing the pipes together, and the sleeve is then bonded to pipe and socket by completing the cure. An adhesive coating on the pipe and socket improves the bond. A jointing unit the ends of which are secured as by brazing to an aluminium tube and a copper tube comprises short lengths of aluminium and copper tube 11, 41 which are connected as before by a bonded sleeve 7 and bush 5. The tube 41 has a bead 42 which seats on a shouldered bush 51 extending into the socket 21.
