Condensation products are obtained by the action of an a : b -alkylene oxide in the proportion of 4-50 mols. on an amine containing a primary or secondary amino group, or a tertiary amino group and an alcoholic group. In examples, ethylene oxide reacts with commercial mixtures of higher alkylamine mixtures with resin amines, triethanolamine coconut oil acid monoester, and triethylene tetramine coconut oil acid amide, to give polyglycol ether products. The salts and quaternary salts of the products are also referred to in general.ALSO:Dyeings of wool dyestuffs, e.g. acid wool or metalliferous dyestuffs, on nitrogenous fibres, e.g. wool, silk, casein, polyamide or polyurethane fibres, are stripped or lightened by treatment in an aqueous bath containing a reaction product of at least 4 molecular proportions of an a :b -alkylene oxide with one molecular proportion of an organic compound which contains at least one basic primary or secondary amino group or contains a basic tertiary amino group and also an alcoholic hydroxyl group, or a product obtained by introducing polyglycol ether chains having a corresponding number of ether groups into the said amines, or a salt or quaternary ammonium salt of such reaction product or such polyglycol ether product. Specified amino compounds from which the products are obtained are aliphatic monoamines such as methylamine, ethylamine, diethylamine, butylamine, hexylamine, dodecylamine, cetylamine, oleylamine and octadecylamine, polyamines such as ethylene diamine and triethylene tetramine, basic derivatives of aliphatic amines such as coconut oil fatty acid triethanolamine ester and triethylene tetramine monoacylated with coconut oil fatty acid, aromatic amines of the benzene and naphthalene series, alicyclic amines such as abietylamine, abietylmethylamine, hydrogenated abietylamine and the amine mixture corresponding to tall oil and amidines such as lauric acid amidine or stearic acid amidine. Specified alkylene oxides are ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and glycide. The aqueous bath may be acid, neutral or alkaline. The dyed fibres may be in the form of yarn, fabric or loose fibres and mixed fabrics, including a mixed fabric of nitrogenous and cellulose fibres, may be treated. Examples are given.
