Abstract

702,426. Carpet sweepers. BISSELL CARPET SWEEPER CO. Dec. 28, 1951, No. 30294/51. Class 138 (i) A brush cleaning comb comprises a body portion adapted to be secured within a carpet sweeper, the body portion having interspaced long and short teeth formed along an edge thereof, the long teeth being of a length substantially exceeding the length of the short teeth. As shown in Fig. 2, curved combs are fixed by brackets 16 and screws 18 to sweeper casing members 17. Each comb is formed from a stamping and comprises the body portion 11 with stiffening flange 14 and long teeth 12 and short teeth 13. The long teeth 12, Fig. 3, are desirably of the order of three times the length of the short teeth 13. The short teeth engage only the ends of the brush bristles to remove fluff adhering thereto, particularly due to electrostatic influence. The long teeth of one comb are staggered in relation to the long teeth of the other comb. Each brush tuft is penetrated by at least one long tooth as the tufts move past the combs. In a modification, Fig. 4, the body portion 20 of the comb is formed with a curved flange 22 provided with holes 25 to receive U-bent pieces of wire having long legs 23 and short legs 24 which form the teeth of the comb. The wires are secured by clamping or welding.
