An apparatus for accret ing fibrous material from a slurry comprises a pair o dies 1, 20, a tubular cham ber 8 between the die mem bers, means for supplying slurry to the chamber an( means for advancing one die towards the other. One of the dies may be solid but, as shown, both are foraminous and are face, with perforated screens The die 1 is first lowered by means of the fluid-pressure cylinder 46 to seal the chamber 8 which is the] filled with slurry from a conduit 13. The lower di member 20; which i mounted to slide upon central rod 17, is then raised by means of fluid pressure cylinder 26, th liquid in the slurry being forced through the die and exhausted through th conduit 15 to which suction may be applied. The moulded fibrous article which is in the form of a disc, flat or conical, having a central hole, is ejected by the application of suction to the die 1 as it is raised. Wood, cotton, grass, glass or nylon fibres may be used. Melamine or phenoaldehyde resins may be incorporated in the fibres.
