A baby carrier comprises a seat 1, Figs. 1, 2, supported in position by a hinged board or plate 3 bearing against the wearer's abdomen and hingedly carrying a strut 6 engaging a recess 8 in the seat which is carried at the front and sides by a harness 9, 10, 17, 18 securing the baby in the seat and passing over the shoulders and back and around the body of the wearer and engaging buckles 12, 13 on straps 14, 15 secured to the rear of the seat. A central strap 17 is secured to the front of the seat and is sewn to a transverse strap 18 linking the straps 9, 10 and passing over the chest and under the baby's armpits, the legs passing between the strap 17 and the straps 9, 10. The seat, which may be of wood, light metal or plastic, is curved at the back edge and the member 3 may be curved accordingly. The transverse strap 18 may be sewn to the strap 10 and adjustably secured to a buckle on the strap 9 or may be sewn to both straps. Alternatively it may be extended to pass around the body of the wearer and its ends connected by a buckle in which case it is slidably mounted on the straps 9, 10 by means of loops. The straps may be of webbing, leather or plastic.
