Abstract

A composition suitable for use as an adhesive comprises an organic diisocyanate-modified polyester or polyesteramide, a "terpene-phenolic" resin, and an organic solvent. The terpene-phenolic resin is a condensation product of a terpene with a phenol, or with a phenol and formaldehyde, or with a preformed phenol-formaldehyde condensation product. In examples: an organic diisocyanate-modified polyesteramide prepared as in example 7 of Specification 580,524, is milled until soluble in acetone and made into solution together with terpene phenolic resin and (1) acetone, (2) acetone and p,p1-diphenyl methane di-isocyanate, (3) acetone, ethyl acetate and benzene, (4) acetone, toluene, nitro-propane, and p,p1-di-phenyl methane di-isocyanate. Suitable other ingredients are carbon black, asbestos, china clay, mica, vinyl polymers and copolymers, natural or synthetic rubber and cellulose derivatives. The products may be as used for joining surfaces of cotton, cellulose acetate, wool, nylon, paper, regenerated cellulose, wood, metal, leather, polyvinyl chloride sheets, natural and synthetic rubber and organic diisocyanate-modified polyester or polyesteramide, or in joining shoe soles and uppers of various natural and synthetic materials, or in bonding abrasives in emery-cloth or sand paper.
