613,266. Wedging tapered-plug lift valves. BLAKEBOROUGH, R. A., and BOYD, W. June 14, 1946, No. 17871. [Class 135] In a valve of the split-wedge gate type, each of the valve members b, c, which are urged apart by springs d towards their respective seats, is provided with a fitting g forming a seating for a free dumb-bell shaped auxiliary valve h, whereby the space between,the valve members, when the valve is closed, is in communication with the pressure or inlet side of the valve. The body is provided with vertical guides j against which bear strips c' on the members b, c. Upward movement of the valve members is accompanied by movement away from their seatings so that the load on the members is carried by the strips j.
