Abstract

582,371. Castors. KEARNEY, A. R. Sept. 25, 1944, No. 18255. [Class 52 (i)] In a furniture castor of the kind having a runner wheel rotatably mounted so that it can be displaced relative to its mounting, the axle 12 of the runner wheel 3 provides the pin of a pin-and-slot form of resilient mounting, the ends of the axle 12 engaging oblique or curved slots 4 in the lower ends of the shanks of the forked mounting member 2 and being yieldingly maintained in a predetermined position in the. slots by leaf springs 8. The shanks of the mounting member 2 are offset to the attaching pintle 7 and the slots 4 preferably form arcs about the point 5 which is also the centre about which the upper parts of the leaf springs 8 flex. The upper part of the leaf springs 8 are secured to the mounting member 2 and the lower parts 9 bear against the axle 12 their resilience allowing the article of furniture to be moved smoothly over an uneven surface.
