Abstract

541,563. Vacuum cleaner dust bags. HOOVER, Ltd. May 31, 1940, No. 9561. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1939. [Class 8 (ii)] The dustbag of a suction cleaner is clamped at its lower end around a muffler 13 movably mounted on the air outlet of the cleaner casing. A sleeve or valve 26 preventing return of dust extends beyond the muffler. A coil spring 20 surrounding a pivot 19 tends to lift the muffler. The mouth of the paper dustbag 25 may be clamped on the muffler by expanding elements 27 in the muffler controlled by a lever 28. Alternatively an inner cloth bag may be used with a wider mouth carrying a flanged adapter with a sleeve of smaller diameter clamped to the muffler. An outer pervious or apertured bag 6 is provided suspended by a spring from the handle at its upper end, and having a slide opening 7 for removal and replacement of the inner bag.
