Abstract

510,754. Teething devices. SHARP, H., and CRAIG, F. D. June 20, 1938, No. 18260. [Class 81 (ii)] A teething device comprises an open ring portion and integral therewith a portion to be bitten on of such width and spread that when within the infant's mouth it covers the area of the front gums and at the same time substantially also the area or some of the area of the side gums. In Fig. 1, the device consists of a portion 1 formed with finger grooves 2, and a fan-shaped thicker portion 3 to be bitten on and formed with grooves 4. A slot 5 for a ribbon is provided. The device may be hand-cut from ivory or pressed from synthetic resin. In a modification, moulded from a flexible material such as rubber, the bitten-on portion is studded with projections and is formed with a radial central bore to prevent the habit of sucking. The finger grooves are somewhat deeper. In Fig. 5, the device, of flexible or hard material, is formed with a bitten-on portion 12 having a concave outer side. The corners a, b, may be thickened.
