Abstract

482,912. Cables. SIEMENS& HALSKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 18, 1936, Nos. 31630, 31631, and 31632. Convention dates, Nov. 18, 1935, Feb. 13, 1936, and July 29, 1936. [Class 36] A member for spacing the conductors 1, 5, Fig. 1, of an air-space insulated cable comprises an insulating strip 2, preferably formed of a polyvinyl compound, which is wound around the conductor 1 and from which project insulating pins 3. The pins 3 support an insulating sheath 4 over which is applied an outer conductor 5. The pins, which are inserted through holes in the strip and which may be formed of porcelain, hard rubber or polystyrol, may be of flat, round, or cruciform cross-section, and may be hollow The ends of the pins, and also the portions of their heads which bear on the inner conductor 1, are preferably domed. In a modified construction shown in Fig. 12, the spacer comprises an insulating strip 41 of U - cross-section provided with cuts 44 in its limb portions to form two rows of pins 43. The strip is wound on the conductor with the face 42, which may be concave or convex, in contact with the conductor. The strip may be of T- or I-cross-section, instead of U-form and may be subjected to vulcanization or other heat treatment after application to the conductor. Figs. 14 and 15 show another construction in which pins 62 project inwardly from helical insulating strips 63 to support a central conductor 61. The strips 63 are held in position by a copper band 64 and are individually enclosed in copper bands 67, 68 which form the outer conductor of the cable.
