[Class 136 (iii)] A fork for cycles and like vehicles is made entirely separate from the steering - column, and is connected with the top and bottom ends thereof through the intervention of cushioning - devices, such as rubber bushes, which are arranged coaxially with the steering- column and are clamped in position by screw mechanism adapted to be adjusted by turning a control member to vary the cushioning effect. The steering column A is rotatably mounted by ball bearings B, C in the head D, and is fitted in its top and bottom ends with rubber or other resilient bushes G, the outer parts g<1> of which are conical to engage conical holes in bridge members e connecting the limbs of the front fork E. The intermediate parts g<3> of the bushes are of softer rubber to provide the required resilience, and enable the fork to move in any direction. The bushes G are clamped in position and adjustably compressed by means of a screw H (with wing-nut h) passing through a tubular lining in the upper bush and screwing into a tube g<4> in the lower bush, the head of the screw bearing against a metal cap g<7>. A lower screw g<9> bears against a metal cap g<8>. The upper bridge e is formed with a projecting lug to carry the handle-bar.
