[Class 85] A roller-cutter assembly for an earth-boring drill comprises a cutter 1, with relatively inclined cutting zones 1a, 1b, supported on conical roller bearings 6 and cylindrical roller bearings 7 on a two-part spindle 2, 3, the members being assembled on the part 3 which is then inserted in the part 2 and welded at 5, bearings 7 then locking the cutter in place. The spindle support 3e is then secured to the drill head as by welding. The tapered end 3c of the spindle forms a friction bearing. The base of the roller cutter may have an annular recess receiving a packing ring of rubber, &c., which retains grease in the cutter, the packing ring being held by a split metal ring of L-section which is sprung into the cutter.
