[Class 130] In a cutting-device for continuous-rod cigarette or cigar making machines a knife 4, positioned at right angles to the cigarette rod and to the axis 2 about which the knife rotates, is connected by parallelogram linkwork 7 ... 10 to a driving hub 1 on the shaft 2 and is reciprocated relatively to the hub 1 by means of a cam 12, 13. As shown, the knife 4 is clamped between jaws 5, 6 connected by pairs of leaf springs 7, 8 and 9, 10 to the hub 1. The knife is reciprocated by means of an elbow lever 11, the arm 16 of which carries rollers 14, 15 travelling on the faces 12, 13 of a stationary cam mounted on the bearing 3 of the shaft 2 ; the lever arm 19 being forked to engage a roller 21 on the knife jaw 6. In a modification, the lever arm 16 has a single roller held by a spring in contact with the cam. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also modifications in which (1) the knife 32, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), is carried by a holder 30 mounted on a shaft 29 sliding in a bearing 27 in a casing 26 mounted on the driven shaft 25, the shaft 29 being reciprocated by means of rollers 36, 37 travelling on the faces 38, 39 of a stationary cam 40 ; (2) the knife 52, Figs. 4 and 5 (Cancelled), is mounted on a rotary carrier 44 and is guided during the cutting operation by pairs of rollers 48 ... 51 supported on a member 47 provided with guide tubes 45, 46 for the cigarette rod and reciprocated in the direction of movement of the rod. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
