440,387. Delivering measured quantities of granular and like fluent materials. HEIDE, Inc., H., 313, Hudson Street, Manhattan, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Zwoyer, W. R. ; 103, Lenox Avenue, Maywood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 22, 1934, No. 4018/35. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1933. Divided out of 440,328. [Class 106 (v)] Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of granular or like fluent materials comprises a hopper 209, a barrier 213 to control the passage of material from the main portion to an auxiliary portion of hopper so that the material is loosely scattered over only a part of the auxiliary portion, and a rotor having a number of depending cylindrical measuring chambers or tubes 203 each adapted to move over a discharge opening 24 just as it emerges from beneath the barrier and in its subsequent rotation, to be filled without pressure by the loosely scattered material before passing beneath the main portion of the hopper. By this means, jamming or clogging of the material within the measure due to the weight of the material in the hopper, is avoided. The form of apparatus shown has two measuring rotors M<1>, M<2> carried by shafts 202 journalled in a supporting platform 200 and rotated in opposite directions by gearing from a shaft 220 intermittently driven by pawl and ratchet mechanism. Extending diametrically over, but not entirely across, the top of each rotor is a barrier in the form of a brush 213 and a plate 214a. The discharge of each measuring chamber when over the opening 24 is facilitated by one or more blows from strikers 240 of wood or other material, adapted to be moved against the action of a spring and then released by engagement with the preceding measuring chamber. A series of blows may be obtained by using a number of strikers of different lengths.
