Abstract

360,915. Cooling dynamo - electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and CRANSTON, W. M., of General Electric Co., Witton, Birmingham. Aug. 8, 1930, No. 23782. [Class 35.] In an enclosed machine, an end closure member situated between two fans has heat - transmitting members projecting inwardly and outwardly into the discharges from the fans so that both the internal and external fluid which flows in the direction in which the end closure member extends is divided into a multiplicity of streams. The fans are of the disc type with blades at their peripheries, and the discs may be of good conducting material. In the form shown, the plate 2 has a number of axially arranged copper bars 11 spaced at intervals all round its circumference which receive heat from the internal fluid circulated by the fan 5 which is extracted from them by the fan 6. The fan hubs 8 also assist in absorption and dissipation of heat which flows to the fan 6 by way of the shaft 4, or the fans may have a common hub between which and the plate 2 packing is located. In place of the bars, the closure plate may have flanges provided with radial passages. The closure plate 2 may be arranged as a bearing bracket.
