Abstract

A manual hand tool extracts wall plugs 5. Preferably the plug is engaged by a screw thread 4. Ideally there is a collar 2 or centre bar to contact the wall 6 so that the plug engaging portion can pull against it and the surrounding regions of the wall are protected. The relative movement can be due to a threaded 3 engagement between the stationary collar/bar and the plug engaging portion. The thread which engages the plug and the thread which engages the collar should helix in opposite directions, clockwise vs anticlockwise, to prevent the extractor disengaging the plug as it is rotated to move it away from the wall.

Description

PLUG EXTRACTOR
This invention relates to a self-extracting plug remover.
Plugs, generally known as raw plugs are inserted into a wall or fixture to accommodate a screw or similar fixing. To remove a plug from its surround, it is necessary to use one or more tools requiring physical pulling force.
The object of the invention is to provide a hand tool which is self-extracting, eliminating the use of physical force or the use of more than one tool. Also the invention will withdraw a plug at the same angel of insertion minimising the damage to the plugs surround.
Accordingly, the intention provides for a plug extractor, which is self extracting, without the use of physical force.
Preferably, the extractor will be made of metal or hard plastic material, and the handle can be of various shape or size.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1: Shows the side view of the extractor.
Figure 2: Shows the position of the extractor when inserted into the plug being removed.
As shown in Figure 1: The extractor comprises of a centre shaft (7) and a centre bar (2). At one end of the centre shaft (7) is fitted a screw (4). At the other end of the centre shaft (7) is fitted a handle (1).
Between the screw (4) and the handle (1) on the centre shaft (7), is fitted a thread (3), which is an opposite thread to that of screw (4).
There is a hole in the centre bar (2), which is threaded to match the thread (3). This allows the centre bar (2) to rotate along thread (3), on the centre shaft (7).
As shown in Figure 2: Shows the screw (4) inserted into the plug (5). This has been achieved by turning the centre shaft (7) clockwise by means of the handle (1). The centre bar (2) being the opposite thread to that of screw (4) will travel towards the plug (5). When the centre bar (2) reaches the plug surround (6), opposite forces apply, causing the plug (5) to withdraw from its surround (6).
