Abstract

A locking mechanism having a resilient member allowing opening of the locked mechanism when forces applied to it exceed a threshold. The mechanism comprises a latch member and a keeper, movable relative to one another between a first locked configuration, in which the latch member engages the keeper and is adapted to restrict opening of the locking mechanism, and second open configuration, in which the latch member does not engage the keeper, and opening of the locking mechanism is permitted, wherein one of the latch member and the keeper is inherently resilient and is adapted to deform in response to forces above a threshold when the latch member engages the keeper in the first locked configuration, whereby said deformation permits the latch member to disengage from the keeper and allows the locking mechanism to open while the latch member is in the first locked configuration. This permits the locking mechanism to be opened repeatedly, in the locked condition, without causing damage to the lock, or to any door or door surround to which it is fitted.
