Abstract

Hand-held apparatus for applying tattoos to the skin which is lightweight and has low noise and vibration. Preferably the tattoo apparatus comprises a hand-held portion resembling a pencil 7 and a high-speed motor (3, fig 1). The two parts may be joined together by a motion transfer cable 11. The apparatus may be made from metal, plastic or a combination of both. The motor may have a crank to transfer the rotary motion into reciprocating linear motion along cable 11 to operate the tattoo pen. A barrel-shaped stop 12 may be provided at the end of the cable 11 which fits into a needle assembly 9 and anchors it into the hand-held portion 7. A spring 10 may be used to keep a needle protruding through the nozzle 8 for loading ink. The motor may provide smoother motion than conventional vibrating electromagnetic plates.

TATTOO-PEN
The invention relates to a tattooing apparatus that consists of two parts, joined by a cable that transfers motion between them, for the application of tattoos to the skin.
Conventional tattooing methods relying on electro-magnetic plates are noisy and also cause much vibration to be felt by the user.
The tattoo-pen reduces this by removing the oscillating contact of metal plates and replacing it with a smooth circular motion from the high-speed motor mounted in the control unit.
The tattoo-pen is held and used as a pencil, thus allowing finer control and ultimately a more artistic result in the art of tattooing. Also the reduced weight and vibration of the tattoo-pen means that the tattooing process is easier and less breaks are needed, therefore more tattoos can be achieved in the working day.
Figure 1 shows the control unit portion of the tattoo-pen; Figure 2 shows the hand-held portion of the tattoo-pen; The tattoo-pen receives suitable electric power through the power cable (1) for operation. The tattoo-pen is driven by a high-speed motor (3), mounted in a casing that also contains a variable speed control switch (2). This allows for adjustment for different tattooing techniques in shading and colouring. The motor shaft has a crank assembly (4) fitted, which transfers the rotary action of the motor (3) to linear reciprocating motion along a cable (11) to the hand-held portion (7) of the apparatus. The cable (11) is contained in an outer sleeve (5 +6) that allows free movement between the cable (11) and sleeve (5+6). At the end of said cable (11), a barrel shaped stop (12) fits into the needle assembly (9) and anchors it into the end of the hand-held portion. A spring (10) is used to keep the needle protruding through the nozzle (8) for loading ink onto it.
