Mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-Means for adjusting an electric lamp bulb in a direction transverse to a gallery or shade or reflector comprises an annular flange B on the lamp holder D pressed by a spring F on a corresponding flange G on a loosely fitting tuba H within the gallery tube J, preferably radially arranged set-screws L in the tube J engaging a cylindrical extension K of the flange B so that the axis of the lamp holder may be inclined in any direction. A projecting pin, lug, or roller O on the tube H is pressed by the spring F on a helical surface P on the gallery tube so that, by turning the tube H, e.g. by a bar inserted in holes Q, the lamp holder can be adjusted axially. One or both surfaces of the flanges B, G may be segments of spheres and graduations may be formed on the tube H and a pointer S on the gallery tube J. A coiled spring may be arranged on the lamp-holder between the lamp bulb and a shoulder in the lower end of the tube J. Rotation of the lamp-holder may be prevented, if desired, by a removable projection, such as one of the screws L, engaging a longitudinal fin, ridge, or channel arc, or in the extension K. In a modification, a flat plate clamped to the lamp-holder is adapted to slide laterally on the annular bearing surface in the gallery tube.
