Abstract

A padlock has two body parts 1, 2 held together by a key-operated lock mechanism 3, and a pin 8 extending between the parts. When the lock mechanism is released the parts can move apart and pivot to free the upper part from engagement with the pin 8.

Description

SWIVELLING RECTANGULAR PADLOCKThis invention relates to a swivelling rectangular padlock body and mechanism that encases both ends of the swivelling bar.
Conventional rectangular padlocks are constructed from a solid block; a sliding bar is pushed into the block across a recess on one side of the body allowing the padlock to be affixed to either a padbar, or chain. It is locked into its position by a key that rotates an offset drum, which in turn pushes a ball bearing into a recess on the sliding bar. A proportion of this bar is left outside the padlock body to enable it to slide in and out, for attachment, which undermines its security, as a hammer attack will eventually push down the bearing allowing the bar to be released.
According to the present invention, there is provided a swivelling padlock body and locking mechanism that completely encases both ends of a swivelling bar, when in the locked position.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way, of example. With reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 Shows in perspective the padlock in the locked positionFigure 2 Illustrates the padlock body separately swivelled in to the unlocked positionFigure 3 Shows cut away views of the body and locking mechanism in the lockedpositionFigure 4 Shows exploded views of the padlock body and mechanism With reference to the Drawings, the padlock comprises of :- Lock Barrel 3 is housed into the Body 1, which is retained by the Axle 4, using Screws 10.
Using Key 15, Lock Barrel 3 turns Cam Locking shaft 5, which is held captive in to Axle 5, byCam retain Plate 11.
The Cam Locking shaft 5 locks into a recess in Upper Body 2, thus unifying Lock Bodies 1 and 2, encasing both ends of Swivelling Bar 8.
When unlocked, Body 2, assisted by Spring 12, will move upward allowing rotation of Bodies 1 and 2. In this position, Retaining Screw 6 prevents total separation, and Swivelling Bar 8 is retained by Screw 7.
An O Ring 9 waterproofs the internals in the locked and unlocked positions, while the keyhole is waterproofed with Keyhole Bung 14 when locked.
An Anti Drill Shield 13 is fitted between Body 1 and Lock Barrel 3.
