Pumps with loose plunger working in open-topped cylinder.-An automatically-acting pump comprises an open vessel 1 communicating by a passage 4 with a suction tank 2 fitted with valves 6, and a heavy loose-fitting plunger 3 adapted to be raised by hand or mechanism and to descend by its own weight, expelling water from the delivery passage 19. In the arrangement shown, the water operates a wheel 20 geared to a mechanism for operating the lever 13 by which the plunger is raised. A number of pumps may be combined to drive a single shaft 25 from which power may be taken.
