Abstract

3647. Turcat, L. Feb. 17, 1912, [Convention date]. Safety - valves ; indicating amount of openi n g. - A lubricating svstem for internal-combustion engines &c., in which a combined safety-valve and pressure-indicator is used, is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1. Oil in the lower part of the crank chamber 2 is forced by a pump 1 through a main 8 with branches 8<1> leading to the bearings 9<1>. The safety-valve consists of a spring-pressed plunger 10 of long lift, connected by links 15, 16 to a pointer 17 moving over a scale, or to a similar device. From the safety-valve the oil returns by a pipe 12' to the crank chamber. A second safety-valve 18 is arranged to come into operation only when the valve 10 is fully open. To avoid internal piping the parts are mounted on the crank casing, and the pipes 1', 8 are in the walls of the casing. The spring 13 of the valve 10 may be adjusted by a nut or by a device operated by the driver. This adjusting-device may be operated by the means regulating the speed of the motor, for instance the adjusting-device of the carburettor, so that the pressure of oil is dependent on the speed of the motor.
