Flexible-tube p u m p s ; bellows or flexible-chamber pumps.-Relates to a pump, more particularly for use in feeding liquid or gaseous fuel to motor engines, but also applicable for lubricating and other pumping purposes, the stroke of which can be set to feed a given amount of paraffin, petrol, or other liquid, gas, or air. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a sensitive tube a, similar in form to that of a Bourdon pressure gauge, is employed, the open end being connected to a valve piece b containing valves in communication with the suction and delivery, respectively, while the closed end a<1> is attached to a rod h, which is caused to oscillate by the engine. An air vent i is provided. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the straight tube a of any suitable section can be caused to alter its internal capacity by bending, twisting, or vibrating. In other modifications, the vessel a is formed by two corrugated discs or by a spiral-shaped Bourdon tube. The amount of liquid delivered per stroke is not only dependent on the length of the stroke, but also on the speed of the motor ; thus, if the motor runs too fast, the amount delivered will be reduced, and vice versÔ.
