1508977 Antibiotic compositions containing clavulanic add BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 11 April 1975 17410/74 27715/74 43651/74 and 53525/74 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having antibacterial activity comprise, as active ingredient clavulanic acid of the formula or a pharceutically acceptable salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and optionally other therapeutically active agents such as #-lactam antibiotics, e.g. benzylpenicillin, phenoxymethylpenicillin, carbenicillin, methicillin, propioillin, ampicillin, amoxycillin, epicillin, ticarcillin, cyclacillin, 6- aminopenicillanic acid, 7 - aminocephalosporanic acid, 7 - aminodesacetoxycephalosporanic acid, cephaloridine, cephalothin, cephazolin, cephalexin, cefoxitin, cephacetrile, cephamandole, cephapirin, cephradine, cephaloglycine, hetaoillin, metampicillin, the acetoxymethyl, pivaloyloxymethyl or phthalidyl esters of benzylpenicillin, ampicillin, amoxyoillin or cephaloglycine or the phenyl, tolyl or indanyl α-esters of carbenicillin or ticarcillin. They may be administered orally, topically or parenterally e.g. as tablets, capsules, creams, syrups, suspensions, solutions, reconstitutable powders and sterile forms suitable for injection or infusion.
