1483625 Suction cleaners PUREX CORP 26 Sept 1974 [23 Oct 1973] 41935/74 Heading A4F A suction cleaner comprises a rigid walled suction chamber 12 to which suction is applied by a suction generator 56_disposed above it to draw dirty liquid or dust via a suction hose 34 respectively, into a flexible container 64 disposed within the chamber 12, an assembly comprising a wall 58 and a perforated baffle plate 66 being arranged between the flexible container and the air inlet filter 60 of the suction generator to hold the container in position and to prevent liquid passing into the suction generator. The illustrated machine is for cleaning a carpet by applying cleaning liquid thereto and withdrawing the used liquid by suction, and comprises a handpiece carrying a suction nozzle (37), Fig. 2 (not shown), connected to the hose 34, and a spray nozzle (39) to which clean liquid is pumped from the chamber 12 by a pump 48 having an inlet pipe 52. A valve (40) on the handpiece controls the liquid supply to the nozzle (39) and when it is closed liquid is continuously returned by the pump 48 to the chamber 12 via a fluid-pressure actuated valve 55 and a pipe 54. The liquid and suction pipes pass through the,handpiece where they are surrounded by heat insulating foam plastics material.
