Abstract

1473320 Fluid heating; burners BRITISH GAS CORP 10 Oct 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 40121/73 Headings F4A and F4T A fluid heating system comprises a burner 1, a combustion chamber 2 and a tube 3 (not more than 4 inches in diameter) immersed in a container 4 of the fluid to be heated; gaseous fuel and air being separately and forcibly supplied and mixed at the burner head. Gas is supplied via pipe 5 at above atmospheric pressure and is forced through ports 7 in an end portion 6. Air is forced along tube 8 and through a perforate cone 9 and a means 10 ignites the gas/air mixture. The burner is detachably secured to a refractory combustion chamber 2 which has a tapered portion 12 leading to the immersion tube 3. The tube 3 can be formed in shapes other than that shown, e.g. it can be coiled and is preferably stainless steel. Suction can be applied to the exhaust to draw air into the burner, with gas being supplied through a regulator.
