1467144 Female urinary guide device HOLLISTER Inc 25 April 1974 18224/74 Heading A5R A female urinary incontinence device comprises a tube 14 having a flange 12 of deformable material extending radially outwardly from the tube at one end of the tube, the flange being of uniform thickness and taking the shape of a shallow dish with the tube extending outwardly of the dish from the bottom thereof, the flange having an ovalshaped, generally planar rim which has a length in the range of 3.5-5.0 cm. and a width in the range of 1.0-2.5 cm. and the dish having a maximum inside depth in the range of 0.2-0.6 cm., the flange of the device being thus shaped so that the flange is positionable in the female vestibule over the urethral opening with opposite side portions of the rim between the bases of the labia minora, with front and rear portions of the rim between the clitoris and the vaginal opening, with the tube extending outwardly between the labia majora for drainage of urine from the urethral opening and with the labia minora overlying the rim so that the device is normally retained solely by the labia. The device is preferably moulded integrally from a soft plastics material and is fitted to a tube, connectable to tube 14, which contains a non- return valve and connects the device to a vessel for receiving the urine, which vessel may be strapped to the leg of the user. Where the device cannot be retained by the labia alone a band traversing the vaginal opening may be used to hold the device in position.
